May Giveaway to Celebrate our Grand Opening!

Hi all,

In celebration of our Etsy Store Grand Opening, we are participating in the May Giveaway Day hosted by Sew,Mama,Sew!

Here is our Giveaway:

We are giving away 2 yards of Michael Miller fabric: 1.5 yards of the beautiful "Gerberalicious" and .5 yards of coordinating "That's It Dot".

Giveway Instructions:

1. Leave a comment to this post with your plans for the fabrics. (Angie will be picking the most creative plans for this beautiful fabric.)

2. After choosing the top five creative plans (no way she'll be able to pick just one, right??) Angie and I will award up to two extra entries for each of the top five who have also:

a) posted at least one other comment on our very first week of colorful blogs, and

b) visited our Etsy shop. (After visiting the shop come back to this blog and tell us about your favorite item).

How we'll pick a final winner:

Angie's "Top Five" will each be written on a 3 x 5 card. Up to two extra entries for each will also be written on separate cards. All cards will go into a mixing bowl and Angie's granddaughter, Madison (age 2), will pick the ultimate winner of our giveaway.

A few more details:

Yes, we'll ship the fabric internationally.
Our first giveaway is open until May 31st.
We will ship the fabric to the winner by June 3.

Any questions?

Congrats on your Grand Opening!
These fabrics would be absolutely perfect for the Spring Ruffle Top at Sew.Mama.Sew http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=791
1.5 meters of Gerberalicious for the body, and .5 of That's It Dot for the pockets & chest band!
Thanks for a great giveaway!

Hmm I can never really decide what to do with fabric until I have in my hands but I adore gerber daisies and I think this would make some amazing clasp purses with the dot as the lining fabric. There would still be fabric left over and the daisies would be great to create a fabric flower to decorate a blouse.

The bird valance in your Etsy shop is just too cute! I can't wait to see what else you come up with.

Max. H said...

Just had a look at your etsy shop! The birds of a feather valance is my fav! I have a thing for birds & the big buttons are so adorable!

Yum! I love the Gerberlicious. I would use the fabric to make a sweet skirt. And from your shop, my favorite item is the lemon dish towels.

I'm doing a giveaway as well and hosting a fabric swap. Come and check it out :)

Melissa said...

The first thing I thought of when I saw this fabric was that it would make an adorable skirt! A full skirt with the polka dot on the edge and adding a black bias tape hem.

Thanks for the giveaway!

Jen said...

summer top for sure. i don't think it's very original but this fabric is calling for it. and the scraps from making the top will be used for patchwork...waste not, want not!

Jen said...

i really like the birds of a feather quilt...and that there are matching valences!

Kara said...

I have two ideas.
1. I have been planning to upholster a board with some quilted material and make a growth chart to mark my children's heights on, using a different block of material to show each foot of measurement. Since we don't own our house and won't live here forever, I don't want to just mark it on the wall.
2. A cute sundress for my daughter. I can never resist a cute dress.

My best friend loves Gerber daisies, and is in the process of opening a coffee shop with her husband. I would love to surprise her with an amazing apron made of the daisy fabric with the dot fabric for pockets and ties--it would be adorable! Thanks for a great giveaway.

LFinn said...

I just visited your Etsy store, and I LOVE the birds of a feather quilt. What a great way to display a stunning fabric.

i think a nice grocery tote would be nice...

I would make a small handbag for me (the Buttercup bag, perhaps?) and a sundress for my daughter...we'd match!

Liz said...

Do you think the print is too large for a maternity top? I don't want to end up looking huge, but it would make such a cute shirt for the summer I think! With some straps or pipping done in the contrast. I suppose I might need to buy extra, but I'm willing to chance it!

Also, love the Little Pardner Wipes case from your shop! With a second boy on the way I need to streamline the diaper bag!

melonkelli said...

Ooh, I have seen a really cute Oliver + S sundress pattern that would be great in this fabric -- the daisy in the middle and the dots for the straps and facing.

Jenna Z said...

Gerberalicious screams kitchen cafe curtain! Not a ruffly one, a really slim, straight-lined one. Very summer!

Dolores said...

I would definitely make a bag for my daughter out of the gerbera fabric. She loves gerberas. The polka dot would go towards a bag for my other daughter. Any fabric left over would go towards a lap quilt for my mom because she loves red.

My best friend is using red Gerbera daisies for her wedding.

I think I would (and now will) make her a photo album for her bachelorette party & bridal shower using that material. With the leftover fabric, I think a tote bag would be great for her as well!

Even if I don't win, thanks for just helping me come up with a whopper of an idea!

Jules@MoonCatFarms said...

Congrats on your Etsy shop. I love the blankie and burp cloth. Very cute.

Kris said...

I don't know if it's all that creative but I would *love* to make a skirt with a dot waistband!

I would make my daugther's 2 yr. old birthday dress. I have started this tradition and have yet to pick a fabric for her July birthday. This fabric would be perfect!

Oh, and I love the little pardner blanket in the etsy shop. I can already picture my son walking around with it as his "lovey"

Lottie said...

Wow I love your birds of a feather quilt - I am really drawn to birds on fabric!

I would love to use that fabric to make a reversible wrapover skirt - I am brand new to sewing but think that would be within my abilities(?.

I think your selection process is really cute - pick me Madison!

I was thinking of wrapping pieces of fabric around a small canvas or within a frame to decorate a small room in my home. This would be so eyecatching for that!

The Shumate Family said...

I would love to make a dress for my little girl, or maybe a killer summery skirt for myself... or both?! That would be so fun! congrats on your grand opening!

hcotten said...

O.k. this is not very creative, but I would absoutly HAVE to use that fabric to make the round neck top from thatdarnkat (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25256168). I am obsessed with this pattern and I think these fabrics would look great. However, with a yard and an half of the Gerberlicious, I would probably make the dress, not the top.

hcotten said...

my favorite item in your etsy shop is the sleepytime blankie and burp cloth

M.E. Greene said...

Well I've gotta say it... this would make the cutest wrap skirt EVER. Probably wouldn't be enough for it, I'm guessing, so I would possibly add some red fabric from my stash. I'm all about the 1950's retro style. Thanks for the chance to win! leafygreenes at gmail dot com

Tanya said...

I doubt I'm the most creative, but I would make my daughter a crossback sundress with the daisy and matching bloomers, and hat if I had enough fabric left. I have finally got my M5353 pattern sized right after my disaster with it. :)

My fav item in your shop right now is your quilt:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=25602010

I'll check out your blog and post another comment too. Best of luck with your blog and your shop. :)

Eema-le said...

These will wither be turned into a skirt or top for me. I LOVE the fabrics.

Vanessa Monet said...

Wow, love these fabrics! And you're generously giving a good share of it away so that something substantial can be made with it. Thanks!
If I won this fabric....
I would incorporate it into a patchwork duvet cover I am planning to make for my cousin. She just graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy and is going to be stationed in Alaska for the next two years. Since she will finally have her own place (no more dorms, yay!) I wanted to make her something special for her new home. These prints are feminine and cheery...great for those gloomy Alaska days.

Thanks for doing this giveaway!!

Gerberalicious is right! Absolutely gorgeous!

My mother in law is just teaching me how to smock and I think a gathered tunic top in the gerber's with the dots as accents would be ridiculously cute.

I am teaching myself but have gotten pretty good at making these darling stuffed animals and dolls (no interfacing involved- it scares me!!!)- Anyway, gerber daisies are my favorite flower so I would want to make all sorts of cuties with this: a doll, a pig (wouldn't a pig out of flowers be precious!!), a lamb, a bear, and a bumblebee!!

Love the fabric! Thanks for the giveaway!

I am primarily a quilter but have branched into children's clothes and am having so much fun with the near-instant (esp. compared to quilting) gratification. I think these 2 fabrics would be great for making coordinating dresses for my girls - the gerbers for my 3 year old, and the dots for my 1 year old. I really like to coordinate rather than just match.

These dress patterns might work -- I just did them and they took relatively little fabric, and could add a touch of each fabric to the others for the true coordination:
http://nanannwoogies.wordpress.com/2009/05/19/my-girls-rehearsal-dresses/

sorry about pointing to my own blog - feels so much like pimping out - but I really think they'd work well!

OH, and as for your etsy shop, really like the sleepytime blankie. I worked with minkee once and probably never again despite how deliciously soft it is!

GloJoeSews said...

I would like to make a great sling-style tote bag (messenger bag without the flap.) I'm a first grade teacher and would be the hippest teacher with a cheerful work bag the body made of the flower print and the trim and straps made from the polka dots! Love it and hope to win!

Deirdre said...

I...see...this fabric as a nice fall skirt, with a ruffly bottom with the dots and perhaps two stripes down the sides of dots. Fun!!

Astrid said...

My four year old would love a dress or a skirt made from these - I'm not quite sure which it would be, I would have to browse some patterns first! Gorgeous fabric! :)

I love the gerbs - so beautiful and bold. I was also thinking a skirt but don't think I'd be brave enough to actually wear such a bold print so maybe I'd have to make a bag and use it as a fabulous peekaboo fabric inside or make a book bag like the tutorial here - http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/05/bookkeeper.html!

I'm not sure how to add in the other things you've requested but here it is:
- I have commented in your turquoise post
- my favourite Etsy item is the childs quilt. I always love quilts and making them (too bad you are not offering enough to make a good size quilt).

I'm thinking something in my kitchen: perhaps incorporating the fabric in some kitchen towels, potholders, or maybe a table runner? Those bright colors would pop with the other colors in my kitchen.

Sarah said...

That daisy print is so beautiful, there are many things I could think of doing with it ...

However, I would probably use it to make a tent for my daughter to play with in the garden. She loves having a little hideaway to come in and out of, and this would look so pretty in the garden among our flowers. I'd just have to be extra careful of bringing it inside and out of the rain!

My favourite thing in your etsy shop is the lemon kitchen towel set - I love that print!

Thanks for the great giveaway!

I'm thinking out of the box with the fabric. Every year at the Del Mar Racetrack for the opening day of the horse races they have fancy hat day. I can just see fussy cutting those beautiful gerber daisies out and fusing them down onto a hat that has been covered in the white with black polka dots fabric. I think it would be so chic with a simple black dress and a matching gerber daisy clutch. I love the fabrics.

My niece is getting married soon and moving into her new house with her husband. Both of our favorite flowers are Gerbers!! So I would make her a super cute Flirty Skirty Apron. (and hopefully have enough left to make me a half apron...)

I'd make decorations for my babe's first birthday. They'd second as room decorations since we're moving a couple weeks before, and let's face it, I'm going to need both.

I have been wanting to make some table runners for my grandmothers and a fun tote bag for my mom when she travels. I give away 90% of what I make, so to win some fabrics would bless me and then will turn around and bless someone else.

Oh,I just love Gerbera daisies. I would want to make a padded stool for a little girl to sit on out of the Gerberas with the polka dot as the ruffle. If there was any Gerbera left -- I would use it in an improvisational quilt with the Gerbera fabric as the main center fabric. Thanks for a great giveaway!

I am addicted to fabric. Addicted. It's a problem. Maybe I shouldn't tell you that or you'll think you shouldn't pick me lest you enable my addiction.

But come on, let's be codependent here....

When I first get fabric, I lay it out in a conspicuous place in my house. Maybe my nightstand. Maybe the dinner table. Maybe by the tv. Then, I look at it. Periodically I touch it, unfold it, refold it, and place it back. I think about turning it into a bag. No! a quilt! Maybe an outfit for my daughter...

After a few weeks of this, I finally put it in my drawer. I lay awake at night envisioning color combinations. Eventually, a eureka moment comes and the perfect fabric meets up with the perfect coordinating fabrics and creates the perfect project idea.

Over the top? A novel worth of comment? Yes and yes. :)

Thanks for the chance to enter! I hope Madison's sweet little hands fish out this loooooong comment from the bowl.

I would make the Heather Ross blouse which I've seen in a number of blogs. I've been wanting to make some clothes out of lightweight cotton and the gerber daisies say 'Where me' to me. The dots say headband to me. If I'm hearing the fabrics correctly.

The Gerberalicious for the body & the That's it Dot for the trim would be perfect! Just found out my cousin is having twin girls, so the 1.5 meters and 0.5 will be perfect for a matching pair!

Ooh, what a great giveaway!

I made my first sewing project ever this week - a pair of ruffled capri pants for my daugther (Porabellopixie's Ruffle Pants). So I would love to make another pair with 3/4 yard of the Gerberalicious flowers for the pant and 1/3 yard of the That's It Dot for the ruffles at the hem. Then, I would make a handbag for me, done by modifying Portabellopixie's Market bag - 3/4 yard of the Gerberalicious for the main exterior print, with the remaining That's It Dot yardage for an outside pocket. Both would be so fun, and then whenever my daughter wears her capris I can use the handbag - she loves to match mommy!

thanks so much for the incredible giveaway!! ❤

I think I would use the fabric to make a little quilt and some comfy pillows for my daughter's reading area! It would be so cheerful in an otherwise kinda plain spot that I'm sure she'll be inspired to read more often!! Aww, see, now if I don't win you're contributing to childhood illiteracy... LOL!!!! (cracked myself up on that one!)

I love the flowers with coordinating dots. I would have to make something for myself most likely because the fabric is so cute. I'm trying to be a little more green these days so a cute market bag would be fun. I have also wanted to try a fabric headband for myself. I could use leftover fabric for that.
